Writing Skills Consulting was created by Annette Monreal.

Annette is a Linguist (M.A. Linguistics) with a past in the news media (BBC World Service) and in publishing (book author and editor, Stefan Loose Reisehandbücher). Her fascination for travelling and Asia brought her to Laos, where she worked in ecotourism before taking on the direction of Kuoni’s local travel operations (the Swiss Kuoni Group).

Annette topped up her qualification with an MBA Certificate Environmental Economics and Corporate Social Responsibility while managing the language teaching department of the Goethe-Institut Brüssel.

The buzz of the European hub meant working across several languages and various disciplines: Annette’s key strength.

She has since been consulting in marketing communications and publications in sectors ranging from development cooperation to the service industries. With an interdisciplinary experience combining linguistics, communications and management, Annette is particularly keen on passing on her knowledge in training and coaching contexts in German or English alike.

Areas of expertise:

  • Editing and proofreading, translating from German into English and vice versa – topics include marketing, science and technology, culture, education, financial services etc.
  • A past in EU technical cooperation projects involving marketing consultancies, drafting and producing marketing communications, evaluations, recommendations and reports in English
  • Language and communication skills trainer with the European institutions in Brussels, Belgium. Writing skills trainer for non-native English speakers and German as a foreign language teacher
  • Communications manager position. Tasks included content production, online and print, in English and German, drafting of press releases and quality assurance of internal and external communication initiatives.
  • Workshop facilitation in communication and management skills

Annette is bilingual German-English through an international upbringing. She also speaks French and Swiss German, the latter due to childhood years spent in the Swiss alps.
